Our journey into the world of Dobermans started 10 years ago when we decided that we would like to be a part of the AKC shows and show our own dogs. Since we had a young family we started our journey with miniature dachshunds. Julie would go on to show our dachshunds for the next 5 years. When our daughter Mattie was old enough to show in the Junior Ring her first show was with Julie’s dachshund. Mattie won her class that first day, but told us that dachshunds just weren’t for her. We got excited hoping this would be the chance to finally own the breed we have always LOVED more than anything……the Doberman. Mattie asked if she was old enough to try owning a Doberman with us and we jumped at the opportunity. A month later we got the chance to purchase our first Doberman from A Leigh McBride, D.V.M. from Florida, his name is GCH Veedoc’s Courage Under Fire, “Valor”. This started our journey into the wonderful world of the Doberman!!!
Mattie has shown Valor in the Junior ring as well as in the breed ring. Mattie won Best Junior Handler at her second show with Valor at the young age of 9 from the Novice Junior Class!!! Mattie has also gone on to earn Grand Champion Select points for Valor in the breed ring when she was just 10 years old!! Valor has truly been a blessing in our life and has been shown by both Mattie and Julie winning Grand Champion Select points with both of them. We were blessed once again with our first Doberman bitch from A Leigh McBride, D.V.M, and her name is CH Veedoc’s Livin’ After Midnight, “Roxie”. We purchased Roxie when she was just 10 weeks old and have watched her blossom into a Champion. Julie, Jason, Mattie and our boy Hayden have all had the chance to show Roxie in the ring. We have had the honor of having Cindi Huckfeldt show Roxie in the breed ring where she earned her Championship with Cindi.
We have watched our great dogs grow every year that we have had them and have enjoyed watching them show. We had the honor of watching Lisa Burroff show Valor at the Beehive Cluster in Salt Lake and bring home Valor’s Grand Championship! Valor won Select at both Specialty shows, as well as Select Dog on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. He brought home Best of Opposite Sex on Sunday for a total of 29 Grand Championship points in a span of 5 days with Lisa!!! During the same show Mattie won Select bitch with Roxie giving Roxie her first Grand Champion points and Mattie did that at the age of only 12!!! We have to thank our wonderful mentors who have helped us along the way and who are always there to answer questions for us. Thank you so much to Leigh, Cindi, and Lisa for everything and for all of the joy that you have brought into our lives.
This is just the start for us here at Janus Dobermans and we hope to see you all ring side cheering on the Dobermans!!
